Royal Air Maroc’s inaugural Gibraltar-Tangier flight on Sunday
Royal Air Maroc, Morocco’s national airline, will commence its new air service linking the cities of Tangier
and Casablanca with Gibraltar on Sunday 29th March 2015. The route will operate twice a week on
Thursdays and Sundays.
The new air link with Morocco adds to Gibraltar’s expanding air connectivity and is testament to the
Government’s commitment to tourism and the creation of new economic opportunities for the local travel
industry.
With a flight time of less than 40 minutes between Africa and Europe, the Tangier – Gibraltar route will be
one of the shortest intercontinental flights in the world. Services will be operated by ATR72-600 latestgeneration
aircraft that have a capacity of 70 seats in economy and business classes.
Minister for Tourism, the Hon Samantha Sacramento MP, welcomed the start of the new air service stating
that it would create additional openings for business at both ends.
Minister Sacramento said: “The timing is perfect as people will be able to take advantage of the Easter
break to spend some time in a different cultural setting. It once again highlights the GSLP-Liberal
administration’s continuing drive to further commercialise the great potential of Gibraltar by attracting
new airlines to the Rock and more visitors to this unique destination of ours. This new air service will allow
Moroccans with a Schengen visa to visit us (providing their visit does not exceed 21 days) to discover all the
tourist attractions, cultural activities, the shopping and the leisure amenities which Gibraltar offers to the
international traveler.”
After Tangier, the Royal Air Maroc service flies on to Casablanca where travellers are able to connect to
over one hundred destinations in Africa, Asia and North America through the airline company’s Casablanca
Hub.
