The Gallery can be found within the historical barracks at the centrally located Casemates Square. A convenient location within Main Street on the balcony above the cafes and restaurants. The venue is a popular site with artists, with plenty on show, whether it is an exhibition of locally produced artworks for sale or one of the many annual art competitions. The National Week Painting and Photographic Exhibitions, Affordable Art Show, Alwani Summer Painting Competition and numerous solo shows and collaborations have of late featured in this venue.
There are artists of various standards and levels of commitment currently working on the Rock with their work bound to be shown at the Fine Arts Gallery at some point during their artistic trajectory. Importantly, the Gallery is home to the Fine Arts Association which was started in 1998 following a request by the Ministry of Culture. The Association’s roots however really go back to around 1954 with the formation of The Calpe Artists Society, a group which organised exhibitions every year, including the first International Painting Competition in 1962. The Fine Arts Gallery is one of Gibraltar’s cultural hubs where you can pop in to discuss the latest art trends and issues whilst enjoying what is on show and picking up a bargain to hang on your wall.
Fine Arts Association
The main objective of the association is to be the representative body in Gibraltar of artists engaged in Fine Arts and to promote and encourage Fine Arts and its appreciation. This aims to include the organisation of exhibitions and the fostering of links with businesses, educational establishments, and the general public as well as with artists and fine arts associations from other countries.
